Ballet Tips- rond de jambe
Now let's take a look at rond de jambe. This movement consists basically of making a semi circle with your foot. Before going on, I would like to underline that there are two different types of rond de jambe. We have what we call, rond de jambe par terre or à terre (on the floor) and rond de jambe en l'air (in the air). I will give out tips for the rond de jambe par terre but they can be equally helpful for rond de jambe en l’air.
I'd like to start off by saying that, for executing a rond de jambe par terre, you can start either to the front or to the back. If you want to start to the front, make a tendu devant, bring your foot to the side, then to the back, finishing by sliding your foot back through first. It’ll be vice versa for starting to the back. You’re going to tendu derriere, then bring foot to the side and then to the front and again bringing your foot back through first to finish. Again, maintain your turnout in both legs. Hips should be squared and shouldn’t move at all and pull up. Your foot should be pointed and strong at all times. Think of tracing a semi circle with your toes so they need to actually brush the floor, just like in tendus and jetés. Also think of your upper body working. You can look back on tips for the upper body in my previous post. Thanks so much for reading! Goodnight all and be sure to change your clocks to 1 hour forward since it is daylight saving. Spring forward and blessings to each and everyone of you!
